Michael Wright

03.27.26

Michael Wright, 50, died unexpectedly at home on March 27, 2026. He was born May 2, 1975, at the Air Force Academy Hospital, Colorado, the son of Bill Lee and Lynn Jeanette Wright (now Miller, née Ressel).

Michael graduated from Independence High School in Glendale, Arizona, Class of 1993. He joined the United States Air Force in 1995 and served until his retirement in 2013 as a proud Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants (POL) airman. He was stationed at Edwards AFB, California, Luke AFB, Arizona, Fairchild AFB, Washington, and Sheppard AFB, Texas. He also deployed to Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kyrgyzstan, and Honduras. During this time he also completed two Associates of Applied Science and his Bachelor of Science. After his retirement, he completed his Master of Science.

Inspired by his uncles, Michael was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed sharing this passion with others, especially his family and younger people in his community. His favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, and foraging – basically, if you can find food outside, he was into it. He also enjoyed off-roading, ranching, snowboarding, dirt biking, mountain biking, and skateboarding.

Michael always held himself to a high standard. He was known for taking young men under his wing beginning with the Airman under his charge. After his retirement, he became a father figure to young men needing a strong role model in their lives. Micheal’s altruism often extended to allowing them a place to stay and work, where they learned life and ranching, before he moved them onto learning a trade.

Michael loved his family. He strove to be the best father and husband he could be. He is survived by Mahleenee Mae, the mother of his daughters, Breanna Lynn (Steven), Elise Maitanee, and Genevieve Mahnee. In addition, he is survived by his mother Lynn Miller (John), his father Bill Wright (Belinda), and his brothers, Stephen Wright (Heather) and Kenneth Hansen (Larissa).

A family only viewing was held at Comi Funeral Home, Trinidad, Colorado. A memorial service with full military honors will be held at a later date to be determined. I lieu of flowers or other gifts, you may donate to a GoFundMe for his children at https://gofund.me/9831e81c6.
