Geraldine Lowene Hayes “Jeri” 97 of Trinidad and Colorado Springs passed away on March 5, 2026, peacefully in her sleep.

 

Jeri was born on February 6, 1929, to George and Imo Christensen in Exira, Iowa (Audubon County), a Danish community. She graduated from Exira High School in 1946. She played basketball and played the guitar.

 

Jeri spent many years in Texas with her husband John. She worked as a Respiratory Therapist in Houston and Dallas, Texas.  They lived a happy life.  In 1986, John and Jeri moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jeri worked for Albertsons. She continued working until she was 92. She said she wanted to be around the young people.

 

Jeri was a devoted member of Holy Apostles Catholic Church.  At age 95 she finally decided she was old enough to join the “Golden Agers” group. Jeri was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.  She had a way of making precious friends. Jeri had the gift of giving. She loved to bake cookies, crochet and embroider hand towels.  Her sewing room was her happy place. She will be missed by many.

 

Jeri is preceded in death by her husband John Hayes and her parents George and Imo Christensen

 

Jeri is survived by her three children Rhonda Roy, Robin (Walter)Lee, and Rock (Arletta) Roll and her grandchildren David, Jeff, Walt, Vicki, Toby, Trina, Jesse, Zek, and Eli. Inherited grandchildren; Travis and Kelly. Jeri is survived by 4 great-grandchildren Savannah, Xavier, Zoe, and Gage.

 

There will be two services for Jeri:

 

On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 10:00 am at the Trinidad Rehabilitation and Health Care Center Chapel, located at 409 Benedicta Ave Trinidad, Colorado 81082. Lunch to follow in the main dining room.

 

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 am at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, located at 4925 N. Carefree Circle, Colorado Springs, CO 80917. Lunch to follow at the church.
